Jojo Pecan was born in 1972 in Chicago but grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, where he currently resides. He describes his first experience with art like this: "I discovered my love for art at the ripe age of two. My first art piece was done on the top of my dad's convertible, which had been covered with my crayons. My spanking burned, but my passion for art burned even brighter." His energetic, urban style is inspired by graffiti and his personal experiences and emotions.
